The Common Folk Brewing

Tall Tales in Short Bottels

The Common Folk bring great american folk lore tales to life with their brews. This Portland Brewery team has worked night and day to bring to life beers that match the tall tale, with each brew having a unique PNW style lore to back it up. From the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Stout to the Jonny Appleseed Hard Cider, there is never a lack of classic, quality beverages with a healthy mix of americana love.
Salt Foundry provided branding and creative direction for this group of hooligans.

Back Story

The Common Folk Brewery is a Portland based brewery. TCF combines the classic characters of american folk lore with the natural feel of the PNW. Each of their beers focuses on Lore, like the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Stout, as a way to connect to a world that feels a little more fantastic than our. The Common Folk hop to create more than just great beer, they want to create a new culture. Although this brewery is still in their early stages, they are preparing for the future and ready to craft some legendary beers.

Goals

Overall, The Common Folk Brewery wanted a look and feel that was a balance between clean modern design and the rugged old school outdoors. Beyond strictly appearances, TCF has a strong focus on american folk lore, which will be showcased in depth by the stories each beer carries (and creates as enjoyed). A Portland Brewery design with a unique edge.

Process

Creating a Portland brewery design can be tricky, since there are so many fantastic brewery’s and taprooms in the area. With the specific vision established by TCF, we were able to dig right in. Our first mission was to become familiar with the american folk lore. TCF had picked a handful of folk characters to use as their main cast. For there, we combined their stories with a clean design style. Each brew received a dedicated color scheme, as well as a unique graphic to represent the story behind the bottle. We also worked to establish a bold, yet clean style for spreading the world about each beer.
